Talus is a country in the Bistol-Seam Ocean located east of the Huggie Continent and North of the Shadow Continent. The main island of Talosia is the urban and cultural center of Talus. Talus also controls four other islands around it: Röd Island, Tael, New Danada, and Hexal. Talus has a population of 78,543,892, and its capital is Bastion, which is also its largest city.
The word Talus derives from the word Talosia, which is the name of the main island of Talosia and the Talosian tribe. It could also derive from a name derived from a combination of Talos and Huvetus.
In 1298, eight hundred individuals from the Huggie Empire departed their homeland in response to concerns about child labor practices. The group included approximately 500 men, 44 children, and a significant number of women, most of whom were middle-aged, with the children aged between 12 and 15 years. They set sail on four ships, carrying 500 pounds of preserved foods, primarily carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, and lemons, along with an additional 300 pounds of flour. Upon reaching the island of Talosia, they encountered the native Talosians. Within a year of their arrival, the settlers established a new nation called Talus, a name derived from a combination of Talos and Huvetus. The new government adopted a monarchy, which remains in place today, with the Rounsaville family taking the lead in governance. As they settled there, cut off from the rest of the world, the populations of the natives and the colonists became intertwined. As the settlers established themselves on the island, cut off from the rest of the world, the populations of the native Talosians and the colonists began to intermix. Native people living in Talus were Domanic-speaking, but later also learned to speak what is now modern Loquensh. There are theories suggesting that the Talosians may have been previously colonized long ago by the Shadow Empire. In the early to mid-1900s, Talus experienced a takeover by the Huggie Empire, which lasted until 1950, when the Huggie Empire ultimately collapsed. This period significantly influenced the cultural and political landscape of Talus, shaping its development in the years to follow.
As confirmed by research done by A.T.O.M. Practical Technologies, a major breakthrough has been made in tracing the history of the ancient Talosian native tribes. There is overwhelming evidence that Talosians originally came from Neolithic Domanic peoples crossing to parts of Aculon via an ice bridge. This theory also could explain why red ice is present in several Bistol-Seam countries, such as Xentus. While there is no direct history of these possible Neolithic native Talosians, there are hundreds of Talosian stories telling of parts of Talosian history and wars with Jameslandian native tribes. They are currently being pieced together into a larger timeline of native history. From what A.T.O.M. Practical Technologies currently has, it is likely that there were, instead of 4 small islands and one large one, 17 small islands of various sizes.
The technology of the Talosians is similar to that of Spebian weaponry, consisting of a variation of the Atlatl (a spear-thrower), rock slings, and (later) longbows made from hard wood and animal sinew. While is these do have similarities, the culture and clothing that the Talosians wore was glaringly different; the Talosians wore dark hide pants and semi-short sleeved shirts (a bit less than elbow length) of thinner hide.
This map shows the geography of Talus.
Since Talus is situated a bit north of the equator, so it varies in climate. A jungle biome sweeps through Röd Island; tropical biomes go through Hexal, Tael, and some of Talosia, and aridness goes through New Danada.

The chart above shows the demographics of Talus. 98% of them derive from Native Talosians (eventually intertwined with the settlers, as mentioned), and 2% are other (mostly foreign students or immigrants).
The majority population of Talus resides on the island of Talosia.
Talus's culture is mainly based on Shadistikan customs and some ancient Talosian practices, such as:
Parting Gifts
Once a Talisian young adult is ready to move out and find a job and/or living space, the parents are expected to give their child (who is no longer a child) some support such as a large sum of cash, finding a good apartment or house for them, or a car.
College coverage
The parent(s) of a young adult should typically have saved up a sum to fund their time at a university learning a major to get a degree.
The demographic of Talus mainly consists of Native Talosians, followed by the Huggies, with other ethnic groups sprinkled in from other countries like Colisians and Shadistikans.
The Good
Talisian healthcare (excluding plastic surgery, which is mostly banned or strictly regulated) is widely considered the best in the world, inexpensive, and free. This is mainly due to the fact that Benjamin Rounsaville, the CEO of A.T.O.M Practical Technologies, insists on removing the aspect of consumerism and planned obsolescence from medical-related equipment.
Through major public works projects and reforms, Talisian infrastructure in almost all areas (not buildings with historical significance) is modern and eco-friendly, but with neo-classical themes: copper or tiled roofs, exquisite sandstone brick exteriors patterned with real gold in city areas, beautiful red brick suburban homes, and comfortable country mansions elsewhere. Museums, memorials, and monuments in Talus are some of the grandest (and most expensive) on the planet. Industrial areas are designed and built to be concealed and partially or entirely underground (they still have proper airflow and some natural light coming in). Whether this is in case of an invasion or if it was just deemed an eyesore in need of covering is up to the regular civilian.
Public education in Talus is renowned for its prestigious designs and budgets; aside from some obscure private schools, lower and normal education is completely free, higher education such as medical schools and college are extremely affordable and high quality.
The Bad
While Talus is a nice place to live, there are very strict punishments for some crimes such as pedophilia, necrophilia, 1st and 2nd degree murder, severe domestic abuse (yall know the word), non-licensed drug dealing, and scamming, many of which lead to a life of factory-prison labor or a firing squad. There are no juries in Talus, so the judge presiding has almost complete decision over the fate of the accused (they still have to follow guidelines and rules). Talus has extensive data-collection technologies in use, not for marketing purposes, but profiling for police use.
Active military enplacements in major urban areas are very common and often work in cooperation with law enforcement when responding to armed disturbances and other crimes. While this does make Talisian police forces very effective, it also makes Talus a police state.
Talisian schools don't have uniforms, but do have dress codes that prohibit non-natural hair colors (ie. red, blue, purple), tattoos, suggestive and 'borderline' clothing, and some piercings. Physical punishment (the ruler) in Talisian schools is used for acts such as hate crimes, sexual assault, and unlicensed protesting. One thing to note is that protesting in school is almost never approved.
