Huggie World War 4 or the Fourth World War (1 November 1939 – 29 July 1945) was a global conflict between two coalitions: the Shadowhuggies and the Pokanoke powers. Nearly all of the world's countries participated, with many nations mobilizing all resources in pursuit of total war. Tanks and aircraft played major roles, enabling the strategic bombing of cities. Huggie World War 4 was the deadliest conflict in history, resulting in 70 to 85 million deaths, more than half of which were civilians. After the Shadowhuggie victory, Pokanoke, Doman Empire, Tomania, and Speeland were occupied, and Poket and Doman leaders were tried for war crimes.
In the early hours of November 1, 1939, a pivotal moment unfolded on the Huggie Continent. At 2 AM, Newton Ollenhowser, leader of the Poket Nationalist Party, launched a surprise invasion of Pokanoke with around 2,400 troops. This military action was not only a straightforward territorial grab but also a bold declaration of Ollenhowser’s intent to expand fascist influence across the region. He envisioned establishing a powerful fascist regime, believing that by conquering neighboring nations, he could forge a legacy that would reshape the governance of the Huggie Continent.
Swiftly, the invasion captured media attention. Headlines proclaimed, "Pokanoke Invaded in Civil War by Poket Side,” signaling the start of a fierce ideological clash. Ollenhowser aimed not only to take Pokanoke but to expand his reach into Speeland, which was already undermined by incursions from the Shadow Union amidst a conflict known as The Great Invasion. Sensing Speeland's vulnerability, Ollenhowser sought to exploit the situation—a strategic move that would set the stage for larger confrontations based on diverging ideologies like fascism, communism, and democracy. Following the invasion, a rapid political upheaval unfolded. After intense negotiations, a compromise emerged between the Pokets and the Shadow Union: the Shadow Union would retain control of northern Speeland (later established as the Democratic Republic of Speeland), while Ollenhowser’s forces would claim the southern half, known as the Fascist Nation of Southern Speeland. This division reshaped the political landscape and turned Speeland into a hotbed of ideological battles. The northern regions leaned toward democracy, albeit limited, while the south succumbed to strict fascist rule, marked by repression and a severe clampdown on dissent.
Having consolidated power in Southern Speeland, the Pokets formed an unexpected alliance with the Doman Empire, planning a surprise attack on the Huggie Empire during its own ongoing civil war. As the Huggie Empire was entangled in internal strife, the Pokets saw an opening and launched a coordinated assault, which initially seemed promising. The Huggie forces, however, quickly recognized the existential threat posed by this new alliance and united their fragmented factions to counter the invasion. Amidst this chaos, the Shadow Union saw an opportunity to reclaim influence over Speeland. In a bold and unexpected strike, they launched a surprise attack on Southern Speeland while the Pokets were distracted by their ambitions against the Huggie Empire. This multi-front conflict stretched the Poket forces thin, leading to a rapid collapse of their military efforts.
As battles raged on multiple fronts, the Pokets found themselves overwhelmed. The initial momentum of the combined forces of the Pokets and the Doman Empire dissipated rapidly, succumbing to the concentrated efforts of the united Huggie forces and a resurgent Shadow Union. The ongoing civil war in the Huggie Empire had created a fierce resolve among its factions, who quickly set aside their internal conflicts to confront the fascist invaders. Ultimately, the Poket forces were decisively defeated; their dreams of a fascist empire in the region crumbled under the weight of military defeat and strategic miscalculation. The Doman Empire, initially a fragile ally, was left weakened and significantly diminished, with its territorial ambitions thwarted and its influence severely curtailed.
The collapse of the Poket invasion and the subsequent victory of the Huggie and Shadow Union forces brought a shift in the geopolitical landscape of the Huggie Continent. With the fallout from these conflicts, the region redefined its alliances and rivalries, fostering a complex environment of power dynamics that would take years to stabilize. The Huggie Empire, having united against a common foe, strengthened its grip on its territories, while Speeland remained a battleground for competing ideologies. In the aftermath, the remnants of the Poket regime were left scrambling for legitimacy and survival, while the Doman Empire struggled to regain its footing amid the chaos. The Huggie Continent stood at a crossroads, having moved from one crisis to another, now emboldened by a fragile but shared sense of unity against external threats. The scars of war would linger, but the defeat of the Pokets marked a definitive turning point in the struggle for control and ideology on the continent.
